The “Touch the Sky” crochet tote bag
I designed the “Touch the Sky” bag to be the perfect size for all your bits and bobs for a summer day out having fun.
This crochet tote bag is made using the extended double crochet (UK terms) or extended single crochet (US terms) stitch, which makes the the stitches nice and tight so that things like keys won’t get caught in them or poke through the fabric.
This stitch also works really well with the geometric tapestry crochet pattern as it gives really great definition to the colourwork.
The pattern includes full written instructions and explanations of how to do each special technique used in the blanket. There’s also a chart for the tapestry crochet parts, and links to some handy video tutorials (also provided below).

The pattern details
Yarn
The Touch the Sky bag was made with the following yarn:
Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 (DK 75m / 50g ball; 100% cotton)
- 3 balls in Prussian Blue (092)
- 2 balls in Coral (051)
- 3 balls in Nature (002)
- 2 balls in Malachite Green (099)
This cotton yarn is lovely and smooth and, unlike some cotton yarns, doesn’t split as you crochet.
Cotton yarns are a great choice for crochet bags as they don’t stretch, unlike some other fibres. They also give great stitch definition for the tapestry crochet sections.
You could substitute this yarn for other DK cotton yarns, or switch to a sport weight or aran yarn, for a smaller or larger bag.
Hook
The bag uses a 3.0 mm hook.
Sizes
The finished bag measures 40 x 45 cm, not including the handles.
