Crocheting helps me transition into the fall mindset. As I work on a new shawl or blanket, I feel myself embracing the change of seasons. It’s a calming activity that pairs well with hot apple cider and pumpkin-scented candles.

Autumn is also a great time to make a start on holiday presents, crafting cozy items for friends and family. It’s so rewarding to give something handmade and warm.

I’m excited to share some of my favorite fall crochet ideas with you, including cozy blankets to curl up under, accessories to keep you warm on chilly walks, and decorative touches to bring autumnal charm into your home. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced crocheter, you’ll find patterns here to suit your skill level and spark your creativity. Snuggly Blankets that are Perfect for Fall

Fall is the perfect time to cozy up with a warm crochet blanket. I love creating soft, comforting afghans to chase away the autumn chill. Chunky yarns, autumnal colours and textured stitches all make for wonderful fall blankets.

Leaves are a quintessential autumn shape and a great way to incorporate fall into your projects. This Hornbeam Blanket, for example, has striking rows of leaves. It’s made with hdc (half double crochet) stitches, which creates a slightly textured or ridged fabric with a lovely drape, and uses the versatile tapestry crochet technique.

Another blanket inspired by autumn is the Jora Blanket. “Jora” means “autumn rain” and the blanket evokes warm September rain and fields of wheat ready to be harvested. Although the geometric pattern is relatively simple, it creates a stunning result, which is relaxing and mindful to work up.

For textured warmth, you can’t beat the Gunther Blanket. Its attractive repeating diamond pattern lends itself to any number of color combinations, whilst the cozy, ribbed border makes it irresistible for snuggling under.

Fall is a great time to start on more wintery projects too, like this gorgeously twinkly Winter Star Blanket. Start one in the autumn and you’ll have it ready to adorn your home in time for the holidays.

Fun and Cozy Fall Accessories

Accessories make great crochet projects for any time of year but in the fall I love creating warm and snuggly pieces to complement autumn outfits. Smaller items like hats, hand warmers and cowls can be worked up quite quickly, making them great ways to use up leftover yarn and create unique handmade gifts.

My favorite crochet hat is the Down the Line Beanie. It’s made with the attractive and super-addictive brioche crochet technique and is so warm and cozy. You’ll want to make several in lots of different color combinations!

The Bellever Cowl is a cozy design that uses tapestry crochet to create interlocking, zig-zag stripes. It has a lovely ribbed edging and the pattern also comes with a matching hat so you can create the perfect coordinating set for the chillier months.

Moving onto your hands, handwarmers are excellent for keeping them warm whilst still allowing you to do things with your fingers (like crochet!). These Asher Handwarmers are a really fun design that are great for using up leftover DK yarn in your stash. Experiment with different or unusual color combinations and see what you can create.

There’s something really indulgent and comforting about wrapping yourself up in a gorgeous crochet shawl, especially if it’s made with a lovely cozy wool or alpaca yarn. With its leafy edging made with overlay crochet, the textured Maltings Shawl is perfect for autumn. In fact, come spring, you still won’t want to take it off!

Finally, don’t forget about crochet bags. People often associate crochet bags with summer but in fact they are great for all seasons. Granny squares are once again super popular, so why not try the unique Limelight Bag and make it in colors to complement your favorite fall outfit?

Crochet Decorations with Autumnal Charm

It’s always fun to decorate your home for the season and with its rich colors and natural themes, fall is a great time for this.

I love creating crochet pumpkins in various sizes and colors to scatter around my home. They add such a festive touch to mantels, tabletops, and windowsills. There are lots of pattern options to choose from but I particularly love this brioche design from Crochet Love Melbourne.

These adorable brioche pumpkins look lovely and are so quick to make.

For a more practical but equally beautiful autumn accent, these leaf-shaped coasters look fabulous in rich fall hues. They’re perfect for protecting surfaces while sipping a hot drink on a chilly evening.

Finally, for a more floral idea, why not make some of these gorgeous Autumn Gerberas? You could scatter them on your table or attach them to a wreath or garland to decorate your home.
