The Pattern Details
Yarn
I used Hobbii’s Highland Wool yarn to make my shawl. This is a DK weight yarn made of 100% Peruvian highland wool. It’s really soft and warm and is available in a fantastic range of shades.
I used five 50g balls of the main colour (Wintergreen) and one 50g ball of the contrast colour (Moroccan Spice).
You could substitute this yarn for another DK (light worsted) weight yarn.
Crochet Hook
I used a 3.5 mm hook.
Gauge
18 sts x 13 rows = 10 cm over hdcBLO (htrBLO in UK terms)
I recommend making a test swatch with your chosen yarn before you start and adjust your hook size if needed.

Size
The shawl is triangular with the following dimensions:
- Two short sides – 105 cm.
- Long side – 157 cm.
It’s the perfect size to wrap around your shoulders on a chilly day.

Overlay Crochet
The unique and attractive texture leaf pattern is created using overlay crochet.
In these rows, stitches are worked into both loops (i.e. a “normal” stitch), the BLO, the FLO or around the post of a previous stitch, as indicated in the pattern.
The rows are created using single crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet stitches. The single crochet stitches are worked into the previous row. The double and treble crochet stitches are worked into two rows below.
Some stitches are worked into a stitch slightly ahead of or behind the last stitch made.
Even numbered rows are worked in the main color and odd numbered rows are worked in the contrast color. You must fasten off at the end of each row and work all of these rows on the right side.
This special combination of different types of stitches creates the beautiful raised leaf pattern.
