The Limelight Bag – A Fun Crochet Granny Square Bag
The Limelight Bag is a fun crochet bag made of 13 solid granny squares. It’s perfect for brightening up any outfit and holding your bits and bobs for a fun day out.
The squares are made using tapestry crochet and are joined together with an invisible slip stitch join before adding top edging and handles.
Each square has just four rounds of crochet, so this is a super quick project. Make one for yourself in your favorite colors and then make another one for a friend! This is a pattern you’ll want to return to again and again.

The Pattern Details
Yarn
I used Hobbii’s Tweed Dreams yarn to make my bag. This is a DK weight yarn made of 100% premium acrylic. It’s really soft and the tweediness is perfect for tapestry crochet.
Each ball weighs 50g and contains 100m of yarn.
I used:
- 2 balls of Peacock (31)
- 1 ball of Spring Leaves (25)
- 2 balls of Sea Salt (01)
I found Hobbii Tweed Dreams to be quite a thick DK yarn (the recommended hook size is 5.5 mm). As such, you may prefer to use aran weight yarns when looking for alternatives, or hold two strands of DK yarn double.
Cotton yarns would also work really well for this project.
Crochet Hook
I used a 4 mm hook.
Gauge
1 square (4 rounds of dc and dcBLO stitches) measures 12.5 cm x 12.5 cm
I recommend making a test square with your chosen yarn before you start and adjust your hook size if needed.
Size
The bag measures 34 cm x 34 cm (not including handles).
If you used a thicker or thinner yarn (and appropriate hook), this would result in a larger or smaller bag.
Tapestry Crochet
The squares are made using the tapestry crochet technique. This involves working with two colors at once. The unused yarn is carried along with the stitches made over it until it is needed again.
