The Pattern Details

Yarn

I used Sirdar Loveful 100% Recycled Tweed Blend to crochet my beanies.

Sirdar Loveful 100% Recycled Tweed Blend is a DK yarn made of 40% Recycled Wool, 40% Recycled Polyester, 20% Recycled Acrylic.

Each ball contains 300m or 100g of yarn.

I used less than 50g in each of two colors to create one beanie.

You could use other DK weight yarns. I would suggest using a soft, cosy fibre such as wool, acrylic or alpaca.

Crochet Hook

I used a 4 mm crochet hook.

You should use the hook size that allows you to meet the gauge stated below. Otherwise, your hat may be too big or too small.

Gauge

16 stitches and 12 rows over 10 cm in exdc (UK) or exsc (US) when worked in the round.

Size

The beanie comes in one size and would fit an older child or adult.

The brim has a circumference of 54cm (unstretched).
The beanie has a height of 24cm with the ribbing turned up.

However, the pattern contains instructions for varying the circumference and/or height of your beanie if you wish to make it larger or smaller.

Techniques

The beanie uses ch, fsc (UK fdc), exsc (UK exdc), scBLO (UK dcBLO), and sl st stitches, along with tapestry crochet and join-as-you-go ribbing techniques. These are all explained in the pattern and links are provided to accompanying video tutorials, demonstrating these techniques:

This project would be suitable for a beginner with experience of the basic stitches, looking to develop their skills, or an intermediate crocheter.

The Written Pattern

The pattern is provided as a pdf file to download and print (if desired). It is written in English and is provided in both US and UK crochet terms.

The pattern includes full written instructions, a colorwork chart, and pattern notes for crocheting the beanie.
