8 Fantastic Geometric Crochet Blanket Patterns
Geometric Crochet Blankets
I absolutely adore creating geometric crochet blankets. Crochet is such a fun way of making blankets and, repeated over a whole blanket, geometric patterns are both striking and beautiful. Plus, by crocheting a blanket yourself, you can select the perfect colours for your home.
Read on to discover eight fantastic geometric crochet blanket patterns that you can start making today!
Midnight Diamond Blanket
The Midnight Diamond Blanket is made of crochet “tiles” with an attractive repeating diamond pattern. When the squares are joined together, the pattern extends over the whole blanket with a really striking result.
Jora Blanket
The Jora Blanket is made in rows and creates a wonderful tessellating diamond pattern over the entire blanket. This blanket is really relaxing to crochet and creates a beautiful throw that you will be sure to love.
Copernicus Blanket
The Copernicus Blanket is pretty unique as it is hexagonal in shape. This makes it the perfect form for containing a series of concentric stars. The blanket is finished off with a wonderful chunky tassel in each corner making it a fun and quirky addition to your home.
Geo Georgie Blanket
The Geo Georgie Blanket is a real celebration of all things geometrical. It has triangles, diamonds and even zig-zags, and with five different sections it is such a joy to create. You could keep it simple with a monochrome palette as shown or go wild with an array of bright colours to make a real splash!
Gunther Blanket
The Gunther Blanket is another blanket made from square crochet tiles. Each tile has series of “V”s around the four sides and when they’re joined together they create a gorgeous repeating diamond pattern. The blanket is finished off with a sumptuous ribbed border making it a wonderful choice for snuggling under.
Morven Blanket
A simple repeating triangle pattern gives the Morven Blanket real charm and elegance. Plus, a central moss stitch section provides a wonderful drape making this a fabulous option for blankets and throws of all sizes. Like all my patterns, the Morven Blanket pattern includes instructions to vary the size to whichever you prefer.
Playroom Blanket
The captivating Playroom Blanket is made of hexagons that combine to create a kaleidoscopic array of twirling diamonds. Or, if you look at it another way you can even see 3D boxes! However, you view it, it’s definitely hard to stop and you will love to see it grow as you add more and more hexagons.
Super Stars Blanket
The eighth blanket is the Super Stars Blanket which is a fabulous covering of starry delight. You could keep it simple and classy with just a couple of colours or choose a whole rainbow for a wonderfully cheerful result. This blanket is loved by young and old alike so why not get making one today?
Tips and Tutorials to Help You Make the Blankets
All of the blankets in this post use tapestry crochet – a colourwork technique that’s particularly well suited to geometric designs, since it allows you to build clean, precise shapes in two or more colours as you work. If you’re new to it, it’s worth knowing that tapestry crochet is more approachable than it might first appear. The key skills to get comfortable with are carrying yarn behind your work and reading a simple chart, and both become quite natural with a little practice.
If you’re not sure where to start, I’ve written a guide to the best tapestry crochet blanket pattern for a beginner which walks through what to look for in a first project and suggests some good starting points. And for step-by-step tutorials covering all the core tapestry crochet techniques, the Tapestry Crochet Hub has everything you need in one place.
For broader help with planning and making a crochet blanket – including guidance on yarn, sizing, stitches, and technique – the Crochet Blanket Resource Hub brings all of my blanket tutorials and guides together in one place. It’s a useful first stop if you have questions before you begin. If you’re not yet sure what size to make your blanket, my standard crochet blanket sizes guide is a helpful reference.
